Anteaters rally late for win

DAVIS ? Josh Tavelli’s two-run single in the top of the ninth lifted UC Irvine to a 4-2 nonconference win over UC Davis on Friday.

UCI’s Cody Cipriano tied the score in the ninth inning with a one-out RBI single that drove in Danny McCarthy. The Anteaters then loaded the bases with two outs, setting up Tavelli’s base hit.

In the bottom of the ninth, UCI’s Blair Erickson loaded the bases before getting a groundout for his 11th save of the season.

Justin Cassel worked eight innings, scattering five hits for his second consecutive win. Cipriano, Taylor Holiday and Zach Robinson each had two hits for UCI (26-17).
