City celebrates Laguna’s heritage
Laguna Beach Heritage Month begins Thursday, with an event to kick off a month-long celebration of the city’s history.
Mayor Elizabeth Pearson-Schneider will welcome participants to the soiree, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Madian Square & Garden Cave, 320 N. Coast Highway, with entertainment provided by No Square Theatre and the Ken Garcia Band.
Events continue with guided walks through historic downtown Laguna Beach from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 13 and 20. Participants will meet in front of the Laguna Beach Library, 363 Glenneyre St. There is no charge.
The Laguna Beach Historical Society will be open on weekends from 1 to 4 p.m. at the historic Murphy-Smith House, 278 Ocean Ave., a 1920 Builder Bungalow style structure.
A Heritage Forum will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, with a presentation on the city’s Historical Ordinance by Nancy Csira, of the city’s zoning department, and Jon Madison. The presentation will take place in Conference Room A at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave.
Other events include a walk through Crystal Cove Historic District and a natural history hike, both on May 13.
