Friendship Shelter, an adult homeless rehabilitation program and emergency shelter, recently announced its 2006 board of directors officers and welcomed three new board members.

Joe Ziomek has been elected to a second term as president and chairman of the board, while founder Colin Henderson has rejoined the board.

“I am enthusiastic about the direction in which the Friendship Shelter is moving under the leadership of Joe and the current board,” Henderson said. “It is gratifying to see us offer a broad spectrum of very strong programs that can give homeless adults the tools to rebuild their lives. We are making a difference.”

Friendship Shelter’s board also created a new position, first vice president and president pro tem, to which Ilene Glassman of Laguna Beach was elected. Glassman will automatically ascend to president in 2007.

Other members of the executive committee include Ellen Dorse, Laguna Niguel, treasurer/vice president of finance; Jo Caldwell, Laguna Niguel, vice president of operations; George Western, Laguna Niguel, vice president of governance; and Joy Dittberner, Laguna Beach, secretary and assistant vice president of development.

In addition, the shelter welcomed Bryan Gianesin and Len Israel, both of Laguna Beach, to the board.

A former litigator and investment banking entrepreneur, Gianesin has long been an advocate for seniors, children from low income families, and other citizens in need of special assistance.

With more than 19 years in the mortgage industry, Israel has held numerous senior level positions in secondary marketing, operations and wholesale lending. He is senior vice president, national director of correspondent services for IndyMac Bank.

“The professional experience that Bryan and Len offer, coupled with their generous support of the underprivileged around the world, make them very valuable additions to Friendship Shelter’s Board of Directors,” Ziomek said. “I am pleased to welcome them to our very dedicated Board.”

Continuing on the organization’s board are: Bob Bryson, Laguna Beach; Sue Freeman, Laguna Beach; Beverly Funseth, Laguna Beach; Ellin Henderson, Laguna Beach; Marshall Ininns, Laguna Beach; Edson McClellan, San Clemente; Jay Thornton, Laguna Beach; Barbara VanAlstine, Laguna Woods; Marcia Vaughan, Irvine; Donna Vigil, San Clemente; Alexander Williamson, Laguna Beach; and Wayne Wright, Laguna Beach.
