UCI extends volleyball win streak to eight
SAN DIEGO ? The UC Irvine men’s volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match with a 30-20, 30-27, 30-22 sweep of UC San Diego in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday night.
The Anteaters’ 14 wins are tied for second most in school history, matching their totals in 1999 and 2004. The team is ranked No. 2 in the country by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Assn.
Jayson Jablonsky led UCI (14-2, 9-2 in conference) with 14 kills, hitting .500 in the match Matt Webber added 10 kills and 10 digs, and Brett Asuka recorded a match-high 16 digs.
David Smith chipped in with eight kills and four blocks.
The Anteaters’ next match is Friday at UCLA.
