OCC outlasts Hornets

FULLERTON -- Orange Coast College sophomore guard Crystal McCormick scored 46 points, including 10 three-pointers, to help the Pirates earn an 87-84 women’s basketball victory in an Orange Empire Conference game that had five overtimes

The 46 points tied the school single-game record set by Jennifer Ludwicki in the 1997-98 season and the 10 three-pointers are a school record. The most threes in a game previously were eight, by both Christen D’Alessandro and Shauna Steward.

Regulation ended 60-60, and the stalemate continued through an extra 20 minutes (four five-minute overtime periods), before OCC took control in the fifth overtime and held on.

OCC improved to 23-2, 6-0 in conference.

Jillian Ricks contributed 16 points for OCC.

UC Irvine def. Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Jayson Jablonsky had 16 kills and Matt Webber added 15 kills as the Anteaters won a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, 30-26, 30-23, 30-26, on Wednesday.

Brian Thorn dished out 45 assists and Brent Asuka had 13 digs for UCI (6-2, 3-1 in conference).

IRVINE -- The Anteaters were nearly swept in a nonconference match against the No. 37 team in the country.

Aaron Ellis and Andrei Radulescu had UCI’s lone win, a 9-8 (3) victory over San Diego’s Jonas Mouly and Oscar Plotnik at No. 2 doubles. The Anteaters (1-3) extended three of their singles matches to three sets.
