Newport ends Woodbridge futility

IRVINE -- Newport Harbor’s wrestling team scored a significant victory Tuesday, defeating Woodbridge, 39-29, in a tri-meet at Woodbridge -- their first victory over the Warriors in six seasons.

In the other dual-meet involving Newport Harbor, Irvine defeated the Tars, 48-22.

Zane O’Bourke (103 pounds), Victor George (119) and Brian Beaudette (275) went undefeated, winning both of their matches.

Against Woodbridge, Josh George (130) pinned his opponent in 20 seconds. David Rosales (189) and Ryan Gute (152) also won their matches by pin. Craig Nordstrom (145) won a major decision in his match.

In the Irvine matchup, Bryan Bennett (215) claimed victory against the Vaqueros.

NEWPORT BEACH -- Amber Munnelly and Gricelle Cordero each scored eight points for the Sailors in a Sea View League game. Brittany Deyan grabbed nine rebounds and Ivy Melo had four assists for Newport Harbor (3-20, 1-5).
