Sage doubles up to claim girls’ soccer tournament crown
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO -- The Sage Hill School girls’ soccer team won two games Thursday to claim the JSerra Christmas Tournament title at San Juan Sports Park.
The Lightning (7-2) topped Sacred Heart, 3-1, in the championship game, after edging JSerra, 1-0, in the semifinals.
In the title game, Kellee Kim scored on an assist by Sara Montazami in the second minute and Katherine Bukaty scored an unassisted goal nine minutes later. After Sacred Heart cut the lead to 2-1, Kirby Anderson scored in the 55th minute to clinch the victory.
In the semifinals, Kim scored in the 50th minute off a throw-in by Lauren Neale.
On Wednesday, Sage Hill defeated Saddleback Valley Christian and Laguna Beach by identical 1-0 scores, the latter in sudden-death overtime.
