Newport Harbor falls in semis
high school roundupSAN JOSE -- The Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team fell to Sea View League rival Foothill in the semifinals of the TruWest Memorial Cup Invitational on Saturday.
Brett Auer and Parker Gregory scored three goals each for the Sailors, who fell to 19-5 with the loss.
In the third-place game, the Sailors lost to Harvard-Westlake, 8-6, despite three goals from Telford Cottam.
Clay Jorth added two goals and Gregory added one.
The Sailors take on Foothill with the league title on the line on Friday at 4 p.m. at Newport Harbor High.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
El Toro 7, Newport Harbor 6
NEWPORT BEACH -- The Sailors’ frosh/soph water polo team reached the finals of the Gray Lunde Memorial Freshman/Sophomore Tournament before losing to El Toro, 7-6, in the championship game Saturday at Newport Harbor High.
Los Amigos 12, Estancia 9
COSTA MESA -- The Estancia High boys’ water polo team fell to Los Amigos in a nonleague game at Costa Mesa High on Friday. Chad Kunert led the way with four goals and Trevor McDonald added three goals for Estancia.
