Estancia girls still unbeaten

The Estancia High girls golf team defeated Ocean View, 228-306, at

Meadowlark Golf Club Tuesday, advancing their winning streak in the

Golden West League to 6-0.

The Eagles (13-3 overall) were led by Bridget Gleason, who shot

40, while Lina You shot 41, Caroline Clements shot 45, Lauren Cushing

shot 49 and Avery Williams shot 53 on the par-36 course.

Sea Kings top Breakers

* GOLF: The Corona del Mar girls golf team captured a 237-245

Pacific Coast League victory over Laguna Beach Tuesday at Newport

Beach Country Club.

Katie McKitterick led the effort at the par-35 course with 41,

while Jessica Milner shot 44, Jonna Kim shot 47 and Michelle Drucker

shot 48.

The Sea Kings improved to 8-3, 5-2 in league.

Pirates shut out Dons

* SOCCER: The Orange Coast College’s men soccer team beat Santa

Ana Tuesday, 2-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match at Santa Ana.

The loss was Santa Ana’s first loss of the season.

Joel Walker scored the first OCC goal in the 62nd minute. Chris

Dunckel added the insurance goal after an assist by Ian Cone.

Goalkeeper Trent Painter made nine saves to record the shutout for

OCC (8-4-3, 3-2 in conference).

Moss sparks Mustangs

* GOLF: Medalist Maggie Moss shot 49 for Costa Mesa High in a

270-299 victory over Westminster at Los Lagos course Tuesday.

The Mustangs improved to 2-5, 2-4 in league after the Golden West

League victory.

CdM’s Lee leads way

* TENNIS: The Corona del Mar High girls tennis team defeated

University, 15-3, in Pacific Coast League action Tuesday. Freshman

Flora Lee led the way by sweeping her sets without losing a game.

Rachael Miller and Rachel Bryan also swept their singles sets.

The Sea Kings, who improved to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific

Coast League, host San Clemente today.

Sage remains perfect

* VOLLEYBALL: The Sage Hill School girls volleyball team dominated

in the first of three games against host Capo Valley Christian in a

25-2, 25-14, 25-15, Academy League victory Tuesday.

Sage (7-0, 3-0 in league) remains undefeated and today, faces

league rival St. Margaret’s.

Eagles victorious

* WATER POLO: The Estancia High boys water polo team claimed a

16-13 double overtime Golden West League victory Tuesday over

visiting Ocean View.

The teams were tied at 11 at the end of regulation, and in the

first overtime Trevor McDonald scored two goals, while Danny Alderete

scored one. Leonard Juska, who recorded nine saves, kept the Seahawks

scoreless.

In the second overtime, Chad Kunert sealed the victory with two

goals.

McDonald finished with seven goals, Kunert had six, Alderete had

two, and sophomore Robert DiFrancesco added one.

Estancia 2-0 in league, 8-4 overall.

Orange Coast sweeps

* SOCCER: The Orange Coast College women’s soccer team outshot

host Irvine Valley, 28-1, in a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference victory

Tuesday.

In the 26th minute, OCC’s Lizzie Terry scored off a Kaitlyn

Schuesler assist.

In the second half, Meghann Ord scored off a pass from Amanda

Thoensen, and Nichole Huff added two goals off penalty kicks in the

79th and 84th minute.

OCC (5-4-4, 5-1-2 in OEC) plays host to Riverside Friday.

Sailors win at Aliso

* TENNIS: The Newport Harbor High girls tennis team won Tuesday,

14-4, in a Sea View League match at Aliso Niguel. The doubles team of

Carly Adams and Brittany Cluck swept their sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. The tandem of Sasha Dunlap and Chrissy Schwartz also won all three sets,

6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

Newport Harbor (9-1, 4-0 in league) will play a nonleague match at

Troy today. Troy is ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division II.

Vanguard rolls, 1-0

* SOCCER: For the first time in Vanguard women’s 12-year soccer

history, the Lions captured a 1-0 Golden State Athletic Conference

victory over visiting Westmont Tuesday.

The Lions held a 0-18 record when facing the Warriors before the

Lions scored in the 72nd minute after a scoreless first half.

Vanguard freshman Katie Guernsey passed to junior Heather Hutton,

who scored the only goal from 19 yards out.

Kelsey Bowman, Vanguard’s freshman goalie who kept the Warriors

scoreless in the first half, tallied four saves, while Marissa

Welliver, who finished the game, had two.

Vanguard, which is ranked 23rd in the National Association of

Intercollegiate Athletics, improves to 8-3-1, 3-1-1 in GSAC, while No. 12 ranked Westmont falls to 6-2-1, 2-2-1.

The Lions, which are in third place in conference, travel to face

No. 5 Biola Saturday.

Lightning win meet

* CROSS COUNTRY: The Sage Hill School girls cross country team

captured first place in an Academy League meet Tuesday, while the

boys team, which tied Westminster at 36, lost in a tiebreaker.

The girls team, which finished with 39-- ahead of St. Margaret’s,

Whitney, Oxford Academy, Brethren Christian and Capo Valley

Christian-- was led by overall top finisher Katie McKeon (20:39), No.

4 overall Mackenzie Muhonen (21:00), No. 5 Cait Williamson (21:04)

and No. 10 Kelsey Rose (21:46). Allison Ong finished 19th overall in

24:11.

Connor Rose finished first overall for the Lightning boys in

17:00, Sean McElory was 7th in 18:00, Zach Chandy was 8th in 18:05,

Tyler Ellis was 9th in 18:08, and Troy Astorino took 11th in 18:25.

Sage competes in the Orange County championships Saturday, and is

expected to return standout Aiyna Bobrwonicki, who was out of town

for Tuesday’s meet.

Eagles defeat rival

* TENNIS: The visiting Estancia girls tennis team captured a 13-5

Golden West League victory over crosstown rival Costa Mesa Tuesday.

The Eagles, who are undefeated in league, improved to 7-0, 10-2

overall.

Irvine defeats Sailors

* GOLF: The Newport Harbor girls golf team was seven shots short

of a Sea View League victory over Irvine at Oak Creek Golf Club

Tuesday.

The Sailors fell to 0-10, 0-5 in league after Ali Grace shot 46,

Kendall Horn shot 48, Tiffany Kim and Iko Kagasoff shot 53, and

Taylor Funk shot 57.

The Sailors battle Laguna Hills Thursday.

Lightning edged

* GOLF: The Sage Hill School girls golf team lost an Academy

League game to St. Margaret’s, 234-245, at Marbella Golf Club

Tuesday.

Justine Chen shot 39 for Sage, while Natalie Kraft shot 46, Kelsey

Venditozzi 47, Ema Koh 53 and Kimmie Venditozzi 60.

Sage, which falls to 7-2, 2-1 in league, faces Capo Valley

Christian today.

UCI coach resigns

* SOCCER: UC Irvine women’s head soccer coach Marine Cano

announced his resignation, effective Dec. 31, at the end of his

contract.

Cano is in his 12th season as head coach at UCI.

His UCI team won the Big West Conference tournament title in 1997

and the 1998 squad had the program’s best record of 14-3-3.

The Anteaters, 3-10-1 overall and 0-3 in the Big West, travel to

UC Davis for a nonconference game Friday at 4 p.m.

‘Eaters take fourth

* GOLF: The UC Irvine men’s golf team tied for fourth place in the

Alister MacKenzie invitational that concluded Tuesday at The Meadow

Club in Fairfax.

California won the 16-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 844.

Fresno State was second at 847 and Purdue third at 848. UCI, which

shot the best score in the field Tuesday at 279, tied with Michigan

at 850.

UCI junior Brian Edick finished fifth at 4-under 209 (69-71-69)

and sophomore Kenny Kim was 10th at 211 (68-72-71). Sophomore Garrett

Sapp was 23rd at 214 (73-73-68), sophomore Derek Uyesaka placed 46th

at 220 (72-73-75) and freshman Tim Cha finished 60th at 223

(74-78-71).
