Actor to speak at Race for the Cure

Emmy Award-winning actor Patricia Arquette will be a guest at the

14th Annual Komen Orange County Race for the Cure on Sunday at

Fashion Island.

Arquette, who stars in the television drama series “Medium,” lost

her mother to breast cancer in 1997. Sunday she will join an expected

crowd of more than 30,000.

The race, which is presented by the Orange County affiliate of the

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, has raised more than $11

million since it began in 1992.

Registration for the race will continue on Saturday between 11

a.m. and 3 p.m. at Robinson’s-May in Fashion Island and at the race

site on Santa Cruz Street, adjacent to the Pacific Life building,

beginning at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The race events are scheduled from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday. For

Autism group to hold family picnic

Talk About Curing Autism, a Newport Beach nonprofit organization,

will hold its second annual family picnic Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4

p.m. at Camp James-Hidden Valley, next to the Wild Rivers Water Park

in Irvine.

The event will include an In-N-Out burger trailer as well as a

barbecue with hot dogs, chicken, drinks and snacks. Kids can enjoy

carnival rides, a bounce house, miniature golf, a climbing wall,

softball and more. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

Balboa Pavilion plans hurricane fundraiser

The historic Balboa Pavilion in Newport Beach will celebrate it’s

100th birthday Sunday by helping victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Harborside Restaurant will host the barbecue and fun for kids from

noon to 4 p.m.

Doors open at 1 p.m. at the Pavilion Ballroom, where adults can

dance to the music of the Redd Street Band.

Admission for the barbecue and games is $10. The ballroom celebration is an additional $10 donation.

Crystal Cove gala fundraiser tonight

The Crystal Cove Alliance Tropical Gala is tonight. The gala is

the organization’s annual fundraiser to aid restoration of the

cottages in the Crystal Cove Historic District. The event includes

dining, music and the Coastal Splendor Plein-Air Invitational Art

Show & Sale.

The gala is 5 to 10 p.m. on the beach near the Crystal Cove
