ALTRUSA HONORS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Recipients of the annual Altrusa Club of Glendale Youth

scholarship awards were Rebecca Waldron, Wilson Middle School;

Jennifer Lee, Rosemont Middle School; Bushra Abedlmalak, Roosevelt

Middle School; and Joyce Shin, Toll Middle School.

They also received Certificates of Appreciation from Rafi

Manoukian, mayor of Glendale; Sen. Jack Scott, and Assemblyman Dario

Frommer, among other Glendale dignitaries.

These four students were selected by their school principals for

their outstanding service to the community and their-better-than 4.0

GPA.

CLUB RECRUITING MEMBERS AT ICE CREAM SOCIAL

The La Crescenta Woman’s Club will sponsor an ice cream social and

open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the clubhouse, 4004 La

Crescenta Ave., La Crescenta.

President Rita Even and event chairwoman Carol Benedetti will

explain membership opportunities. Tours will be given of the

clubhouse, which can be rented for special occasions.

There are three groups that make up the club, the General second

Wednesday of the month group, the Juniors, many with children, and

the Evening, working women group.

PRELUDE TO CHRISTMAS HONORS COLLEGE PRESIDENT

The Glendale Symphony Orchestra Assn. will honor John A. Davitt,

Glendale Community College superintendent / president during its “A

Prelude to Christmas” dinner and auction on Oct. 8 at the Oakmont

Country Club, 3100 Country Club Drive, Glendale.

Davitt is being recognized for his support and dedication to the

arts.

The event begins with a social time at 6 p.m. followed by dinner

and silent and live auction and award presentation.

A special musical program will be led by Maestro Norman Henry

Mamey, showcasing Heidi Hatch and Alexis Hatch, violinists and Lisa

Abel, soprano. Tickets are $75 per person. For reservations, call

BUSINESS WOMEN HAVE NETWORKING MEETING

Chapter members and guests will have the opportunity to network

and share their business connections, or special hobbies, at the

Wednesday meeting of the Verdugo-Glen Chapter of the American

Business Women’s Assn.

All women of the business community are welcome to attend.

The group will meet at the Elks Club, at 120 E. Colorado St.,

Glendale.

Networking is at 6 p.m.; dinner, program and business meeting

follow at 6:30 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $17.

GLENDALE RESIDENT ATTENDS TROJAN GUILD MEETING

Glendale resident Marilyn O’Driscoll, the president-elect for the

Trojan Guild of Los Angeles, attended the Incoming and Outgoing Board

Meeting at McCormick and Schmidt’s Restaurant in Los Angeles. Members

planned the agenda for the 2005-2006 school year.

The guild began in September 1960 and is known throughout USC for

giving scholarships to students and being an active volunteer support

organization of more than 100 members on campus.

GUILD PLANNING FALL DINNER DANCE

The Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild will have its

annual Fall Dinner Dance, “Autumn Gala,” on Oct. 15 at Lakeside Golf

Club.

Honored guest is Dr. Raul Mena, who has treated cancer patients

from all over the world at Providence St Joseph Medical Center for 24

years and is also involved in cancer research.

Music will be provided by Victor Cisneros Orchestra and

entertainment by Dale Gonyea. Proceeds go to the guild’s $1 million

pledge for the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center.

Chairwomen are Wanda Bistagne and Jo Massimini. Their committee

members are Kathleen Marsden, Grace Mylroie Patz, Pattie Cassidy,

Terri Lee, Rose Pastula, Lori Riela, Chik Smaldino, Maureen Walsh,

Marian Enos, Donna Mahoney, Linda Brundage, Maria Balke and Ollie

Vick.

The gala begins with no-host cocktails beginning at 6:30 p.m. with

dinner following at 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 per guest. For

SONGWRITER VISITS CABRINI LITERARY GUILD

Suni Paz, songwriter and educator, will present the program for

the first meeting of the year for the Cabrini Literary Guild on Oct.

13 at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.

In her program, “A Bridge Between Two Worlds,” Paz will entertain

with songs and music from other cultures.

The meeting will start at a new time this year, 10:30 a.m., with the social hour following at 11:30 and lunch served at noon. The

program is at 1 p.m.

The Cabrini Literary Guild is a philanthropic organization with

members from the Glendale-Burbank and Los Angeles area.

The annual fundraiser held in spring generates funds to help many

of the local charities including, the Glendale Salvation Army Meals

on Wheels, Catholic Charities Loaves and Fishes and the Glendale

Library Literacy program and others as well.
