Chandy earns gold in Morocco
Zach Chandy, a Laguna Beach resident entering his senior year at Sage
Hill School, recently represented the United States at the
International Amateur Athletic Federation World Youth Track
Championships.
The international event was held at Marrakesh, Morocco.
It was Chandy’s first time at the competition.
Chandy, 17, was a member of the U.S. sprint medley relay team that
won the gold medal in the 17-and-under division.
He ran the third leg during the medley relay.
Chandy also finished in fourth place in the 400 meters with a
personal best time of 47.29.
“It was really an amazing experience,” Chandy said. “I need to
keep focused and continue to work hard if I want the chance to run it
again.”
Chandy, who also attended the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic
Nationals in Indianapolis, runs cross-country and track at Sage Hill,
located in Newport Beach.
He will run the 200, 400 and 800 during the 2006 high school track
season.
