FUTURE IS NOW
If you’re curious about the future of development in Newport
Beach, stop by the special meetings of the planning commission and
the City Council, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, Tuesday in the
council chambers at City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd. Both boards will
continue discussion of an update to the city’s general plan, which
will guide zoning and development decisions for the next 20 years.
The council is expected to complete its input on changes to the
plan, which then will become the subject of a major environmental
study and ultimately be put to a public vote in 2006. For
information, call the city of Newport Beach at (949) 644-3005.
WORK IT OUT
Orange Coast College opens its fall “Parent Child Workshop,” a
16-week class for parents of children ages 28-60 months, on Friday.
Parents will meet with an early-childhood instructor to gather
information, share resources and discuss parenting issues.
The class runs every Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. through Dec. 16.
The fee is $150 per person. Call (714) 432-5880 for information.
LIFEGUARDS’ DRIVE
The Newport Beach Lifeguards will hold their second blood drive of
the summer from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at lifeguard headquarters at the
base of the Newport Beach pier.
Each year the lifeguards’ blood drive provides more than 100 units
of blood. Because blood cannot be stockpiled, donors are needed on a
regular basis.
Sign up by calling call Newport Fire at (949) 644-3046.
Donors must bring picture identification.
