Burbank Emblem Club #86 members honored Phyllis Langlois,

president of the Emblem Club’s California, Nevada, Hawaii State

Assn.; Geri Miller, state marshal; and 10 other state officers at the

Burbank Elks Lodge.

Scholarships were awarded to local high school students, Joanna

Tripet-Diel, Ashley Christina McClendon and Lindsey Hoffman Fuglsby,

who received the “Arta Dayton” scholarship. Lindsey is the

granddaughter of Burbank Emblem Club past president Mary Hoffman.

Chairwoman for the event was junior past president Bernice Wynn

assisted by past president Charlene George and other members of the

Emblem Club.

More than 65 members and guests enjoyed a buffet supper was

followed by a entertainment provided by the Gingersnap Dancers.

The Emblem Club is affiliated with the Burbank Elks Club #1497 and

supports many local charities.

Taste of Downtown Burbank

is tasty fundraiser for YMCA

Downtown Burbank and the Burbank Community YMCA are partnering

again for the second annual Taste of Downtown Burbank from 5 to 10

p.m. Sept. 29.

Last year’s event drew more than 600 attendees and raised in

excess of $20,000 for the Burbank Community YMCA. A new feature this

year is the KidZone, serving food for youngsters 12 and under.

Captain Cardiac & the Coronaries are back this year on the AMC

Walkway, as well as the band Cold Duck.

Several restaurants will be represented in booths along San

Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue

and on the AMC Walkway near San Fernando. Streets will be closed to

cars.

Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund that makes YMCA programs

and services affordable to the entire community.

The cost is $25 per person in advance or $30 that day. For food

plus the Beer Garden, cost is $35 in advance, $40 that day. KidZone

is $10 in advance, $15 that day.

Coronaries’ CD.

Assistance League of Glendale

welcomes 16 active members

Assistance League of Glendale, which has several classifications,

continues to serve the community through philanthropic projects and

service activities. The Active Member classification consists of

about 100 volunteers from Glendale and surrounding communities.

New active members from Burbank are Alexis Hanson and Sylvia

Kowal.

The new active members from Glendale are Ann Chadney, Patricia

DiGennaro, Robin Hansen, Rouby Hardy, Mary Lo Follet, Lu Hishmeh,

JoAnn McCullough, Deb Ann Orfalea, Millie Raymond, Joanne Sawaya and

Claudia Wade.

The new active member from La Crescenta is Debbie Koegler.

Other new active members are Rosalie Curry of Sierra Madre and

Barbara Lane of Van Nuys.
