Free lunch offered at retired teachers meeting

The local division of the California Retired Teachers Assn.,

Harbor Division No. 77, will hold a general meeting for members and

prospective members.

The statewide nonpartisan organization is comprised of more than

52,000 members in 89 divisions. Members of the group work to ensure

that the state honors its commitment to teachers. They also develop

and support measures to improve the financial security of retired

educators.

The meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Costa Mesa

Community Center, 1845 Park Ave., Costa Mesa. A free buffet luncheon

and entertainment by Bill Mitchell and his ragtime band are included.

Take a walk in the botanical garden

The Oasis Senior Center is offering a day trip to the Rancho Santa

Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont.

The 86-acre garden was founded in 1927 and is the largest

botanical garden dedicated exclusively to California’s native plants.

The one-hour walk is mild and there are plenty of benches along the

way.

Following the tour will be a lunch and free time at Claremont

Village.

The trip is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13. The cost

is $32 per person.
