Help preserve Laguna vistas

As many of you know, Laguna was famous for its open, beautiful and

unique view sheds; vistas of the oceans, hills and canyons from

streets, parks and private property. Now we have lost many of these

unique view sheds to both structures and excessive nonnative

vegetation; and more are being destroyed each day with the

never-ending growth of uncontrolled or uncared for vegetation.

If you are interested in preserving those view sheds we have left

and possibly restoring some we’ve lost, come to the view preservation

and restoration meeting Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank

building.

Park delay tactics raise costs

More than five years ago, the El Morro trailer owners negotiated a

binding contract with the state of California in which they waved

their right to relocation compensation for an additional five years

to live on and enjoy the Crystal Cove State Park’s public beach.

The five years have been up since Jan. 1, 2005, and these same

trailer owners are refusing to leave. They seem to have an excessive

desire to possess more then what they deserve, which is the

definition of greed.

Because they have refused to leave, the state has had to resort to

the eviction process for each owner. The state has also had to defend

one frivolous lawsuit after another also initiated by the trailer

owners.

Let us not forget Assemblyman Chuck DeVore’s guerrilla tactics

over this situation. He should be ashamed of himself. He accepted

large contributions from the trailer owners and surely he knew it

wasn’t because they supported his vision. Now he’s doing their

bidding. DeVore is harassing the parks officials by insisting on an

audit for the Crystal Cove State Park project. He also thinks that a

great money-making idea is to continue leasing park property for

private enjoyment.

Greed and a bought-and-paid-for politician -- not a very pretty

picture.

Because of the selfish delaying tactics of DeVore and the trailer

owners, the state is unable to complete the park improvements in one

phase. With each delay, the price for the improvements has gone up.

If DeVore is really so worried about the state’s money, he’ll

concern himself with how much his antics are costing the state as

well the taxpaying public.

Protesters linked to Nazi Party

Where is the outrage? Over the last several weeks, the labor

center on Laguna Canyon Road has been targeted by demonstrators from

the group Save our State, and by people hoisting Nazi swastikas and

Confederate flags along with the American flag. They claim to be

pressing for greater enforcement of U.S. immigration laws and the

deportation of all undocumented people.

However, it just takes a few clicks on the Save Our State website

to find an invitation to continue this important policy debate at the

website of the White Aryan Resistance Army and the National Alliance

(a.k.a. the American Nazi Party).

People who support this clearly racist organization with their

time, effort or money should stop deluding themselves and look

carefully at who is standing behind them.
