Recent Corona del Mar High graduate Kevin Welch left quite an

impression on the Sea King boys athletic program. His illustrious

career with CdM concludes with a Male Athlete of the Year award.

He dominated volleyball and football while with the Sea Kings,

racking up six Dream Team selections, six all-league selections,

three All-CIF selections and two All-Star appearances.

He was named the CIF Southern Section Division II Player of the

Year in volleyball his senior year after leading CdM to the division

title, the program’s first in five years.

He was named Pacific Coast League Co-MVP with his twin brother,

Tom. He was also a member of the All-Newport Mesa Dream Team as well

as the South team for the 28th annual Dave Mohs Memorial Orange

County All-Star match.

He led the Sea Kings with 340 kills, 22 digs, 49 solo blocks and

45 service aces, leading CdM to its third straight undefeated league

title.

As a junior, he was named second-team All-CIF, Pacific Coast

League MVP and All-Newport-Mesa. As a sophomore, he was named

All-Newport-Mesa and second-team all-league.

As a wide receiver and defensive back for the football team, Welch

was first-team All-CIF Division IX, first-team All-Pacific Coast

League and All-Newport-Mesa. He played wide receiver for the South in

the Orange County All-Star game.

He finished with 735 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 39

receptions. He also registered three interceptions and 20 solo

tackles. As a junior, Welch was first-team all-league and

All-Newport-Mesa.
