Junior high and high school-age campers from the Soul Survivor
Ministries summer camp hit the Westside in force Wednesday for a
cleanup project.
About 1,500 students helped paint, clean, garden and do minor
repairs on Shalimar Drive, ministry director Paul Martin said. They
also set up bounce houses, face-painting booths and soccer games for
children in the area, and they helped at a block party on Wilson
Street.
The goal of the camp is to help others and to inspire students to
see the needs of their own neighborhoods, he said.
The weeklong camp at Newport Dunes, which ends today, drew
students from California, Arizona, Ohio and other states.
