Golden West Water Polo Club session set

Golden West Water Polo Club, a year-round competitive water polo

team, is running its summer session through Aug. 21.

The club is open to youth ages 7-14 and athletes must be able to

swim 25 yards.

The second session runs June 20-July 31. Practices will be held

each from 5-7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Golden West

College Pool.

A third session will run from Aug. 1-Aug. 21, also from 5-7 p.m.

every Tuesday and Thursday at Golden West College.

Summer Hoops at Marina High begins

The annual summer Youth Basketball Camp at Marina High will be

held this year from June 20-July 14 at the school gymnasium.

The camp is open daily from 8:30-10 a.m., and youth grades third

through eighth in the 2005/06 school year are eligible to attend. The

cost is $125 per camper.

The school also is hosting an Incoming Freshman Camp from June

20-July 21. The camp will run from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday though

Thursday each week. The cost is $150 per camper.

Local athlete runs

to silver medal

Elijah Herrera of Huntington Beach earned a silver medal in the

boys’ Division 95 400-meter run at the Southern California Track and

Field Championships.

The meet, under the direction of the Southern California Municipal

Athletic Federation, was held at Gahr High in Cerritos.

Herrera ran 1:12.00 in the 400-meter run.

He qualified for the Southern California meet by finishing first

in the 400-meters with a time of 1:14.00 at the Huntington Beach City

Track and Field meet held earlier in the year.

Herrera went on to run a 1:13.10 in the event and place second at

the Orange County Championships.
