City Council wrap
JACK’S BEACH CONCESSION
The Huntington Beach City Council approved an extension of the
rental lease for Jack’s Beach Concession and Dwight’s Beach
Concession, both operated by the Clapp family.
The two businesses provide a variety of beach rentals and food
sales for visitors to Huntington Beach.
Debbie Cook was absent from the meeting.
WHAT IT MEANS
Both Jack’s and Dwight’s will receive a second extension of their
10-year-old lease. The leases will be extended until Dec 31, 2009.
Jack’s Beach Concession pays approximately $21,084 per year in rent
to the city.
GIFT LIMITATION BAN
This is the final reading of an ordinance Councilwoman Debbie Cook
introduced asking the council to further amend the city’s gift ban
ordinance to bring it into full compliance with state law. Mayor Jill
Hardy did not vote on the ordinance, arguing that she may be
receiving more gifts this year than other council members. Hardy has
plans to marry later in the year.
WHAT IT MEANS
Changing the law will create a single set of standards for city
employees and elected officials, who will now simply be instructed to
follow state law.
DOGS IN THE PARK
The City Council passed an ordinance banning dogs in Southern
California Edison parkland areas. The agreement is necessary if the
city wants to continue to use the parks, City Attorney Jennifer
McGrath wrote in a report to the City Council. Keith Bohr voted
against the ordinance.
WHAT IT MEANS
The city will begin enforcing the ban at all parkland owned by
Southern California Edison. Signs will be posted to inform park
visitors about the new rules.
