The Red Sox put the finishing touches on a championship season in

Minor A Division play by defeating the Yankees, 8-1, in action at

Ocean View Little League.

Dee Atwood started the game and pitched two solid innings before

giving way to Zack Gates, who pitched the final four innings. The duo

was backed by a defense that turned two double plays.

The Red Sox finished their league season 14-4 and earned the

automatic bid to the District 62 Tournament of Champions, which

begins Monday and will be hosted by Fountain Valley Little League.

Red Sox 6, Padres 3

David Feirstein and Zack Gates split pitching duties and Gates led

the Red Sox offense with three doubles.

Feirstein, Tyler Hammock and Conner Cassatta each had key hits in

the game for the Sox.

Giants 2, Royals 1

In a pitchers’ duel that featured outstanding throwing on both

sides, Dane Perkins allowed just one hit and struck out seven in four

innings and Grant Mayeaux struck out five and allowed a hit in relief

for the Giants.

Casey Hayes pitched the first four innings for the Royals and

allowed just two hits, striking out eight, and Conner Miller finished

the game, allowing one hit.

Hayes hit a home run to account for the only run by the Royals.
