MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES PLANNED

Veterans’ organizations will honor fallen soldiers at Memorial Day

services in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa today.

American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach will begin a Memorial

Day observation at 10 a.m. at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500

Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar. The event will conclude at the

post’s building at 215 15th St., on the Balboa Peninsula. To contact

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3536 of Costa Mesa will host its

51st annual Memorial Day services at 11 a.m. at Harbor Lawn Memorial

Park, 1625 Gisler Ave., Costa Mesa. For information call (949)

LIONS FISH FRY

AND CARNIVAL

The annual -- and reinvigorated -- Lions Fish Fry and Carnival

takes place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday this

weekend. The event includes music, raffles, a baby contest and an

awards ceremony by Costa Mesa United. For information call (714)

BALBOA ISLAND COMMUNITY PARADE

The Balboa Island Parade, featuring more than 5,000 Balboa Island

residents, merchants and friends marching down Marine Avenue along

with star-spangled floats, kids on festooned tricycles, live bands,

antique cars full of dignitaries, fire trucks, decked-out golf carts,

and bedazzled dogs, begins at 11 a.m. Sunday. Information:
