Dodgers hit, pitch past the first-place, rival D-Backs
The Dodgers relied on outstanding pitching and key hitting to upset
the first-place Diamondbacks, 2-0, in Ocean View Little League Minor
A Division action.
Luke Fell and Christopher Smith combined for a two-hit shutout and
were backed by a solid defense.
On offense, Fell and Matt Mulholland had RBI singles and Andrew
Arledge also singled.
Lara Austin and Ben Drolet each pitched three innings for the
Diamondbacks and combined to three-hit the Dodgers.

Dodgers 6, Padres 2
The Dodgers’ pitching continued to shine as Luke Fell, Christopher
Smith and Connor Hurst combined to no-hit the Padres.
Fell started the game, walking three batters and striking out six
in a row. Smith pitched 2 2/3 innings, and Hurst finished the game.
The Padres’ two runs came home on passed balls.
The Dodgers were led on offense by Fell, who had two singles,
drove in a run and scored another. Smith had a single, an RBI and
scored a run, and Grant Peugh had a single, was hit by a pitch and
scored two runs.
Zack Lopez had a single and an RBI for the Dodgers.
Giants 8, Red Sox 7
The Giants outlasted the Red Sox behind timely offense and good
pitching.
Dane Perkins and Grant Mayeaux combined to strike out 11, with
Mayeaux striking out the final three batters to seal the victory with
the tying run at third base.
The Giants were led by Andrew Wall -- who went three-for-three --
Jake Bauers with two hits, and Mayeaux, who had a home run and
single.
Red Sox pitchers Dee Atwood and Zack Gates struck out seven. Gates
led the offense with two hits, and Atwood, David Fierstein, Jacob
Potter and Robert Giambone each had hits.
Astros 4, Giants 3
The Astros’ pitching silenced the bats of the Giants, as Max Gibbs
and Dallas West allowed three hits, and their offense rallied in the
bottom of the sixth to win the game.
The Astros were led offensively by Gibbs and Cristian Barron, who
each had two hits.
Robert Cornwell, Jake Bauers and Darren Allen each had hits for
the Giants.
In other action:
The Red Sox and the Diamondbacks faced each other twice on Sunday
to complete two tied games from earlier in the season.
In deciding what was a 2-2 tie from an earlier game, the
Diamondbacks scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to take a
4-2 lead, but the Red Sox rallied for three runs in the bottom of the
inning for a 5-4 win.
Zackary Gates singled and Trevor Braff and Conner Cassatta each
had an RBI in the ninth for the Red Sox. Cassatta scored on a wild
pitch for the winning run.
In the final game of the twinbill, the Red Sox bested the
Diamondbacks, 9-5.
Picking up play after the seventh inning, when the score was tied
at 5-5, both teams went scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings
before the Red Sox scored in the top of the 10th inning.
Gates led off with a bloop single and later scored on Braff’s
sharp grounder for a base hit. Tyler Hammock later singled in Braff
for a 7-5 lead. Cassatta singled in Hammock and later scored on a
fielder’s choice to make it 9-5.
David Feirstein struck out two Diamondbacks hitters, and Jacob
Potter tagged out a runner attempting to steal second base to end the
game.
