UCI trio qualify
Three UC Irvine track and field athletes posted NCAA regional
qualifying marks in the Steve Scott invitational at Anteater Stadium
Saturday.
Julian Eison finished second in the high jump at 6-feet, 10 3/4
inches, tying him for the sixth-best mark in UCI history. Tom Whelan
placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:47.55 as Ricky
Barnes, who had qualified for the regional earlier in the season,
finished second in the race in 3:47.49. Dayne Comrie finished fourth
in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional-qualifying time of 52.43.
UCI has a total of seven athletes who have now qualified for the NCAA
West Regional at Eugene, Ore., May 27-28.
John Kluve placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase
(9:11.26), Mike Beerer was third in the hammer throw at 198-3 as he
improved on his second-best mark in Anteater history, and Patrick
Grogan was fourth in the triple jump (46-11 3/4 ) for other top UCI
performances Saturday.
For the women, Ashlee Marshell finished second in the long jump at
18-1 3/4 , Kat Dawkins was fourth (18-0 1/2 ) and Kim Harper fifth
(18-0 1/4 ). Orlisha Henlon placed fourth in the high jump at 5-5
and Elaine Gillespie was fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:39.87).
