Here are a few of the items the commission decided Monday.
PHARMACY APPLICATION
The Planning Commission approved a plan to put a Sav-On Drugs with
a drive-thru at 1150 and 1170 Baker St. Tait & Associates submitted
the application on behalf of property owner C.J. Segerstrom & Sons to
build the drug store where a Wendy’s restaurant and the closed Farr’s
Stationers now sit in the Mesa North Shopping Center.
The application included a request to sell alcohol for off-site
consumption.
The item came before the commission because it sits close to a
residential area. Before submitting the application, S.J. Segerstrom
& Sons conducted a series of neighborhood meetings to discuss the
plan with residents.
WHAT IT MEANS
Planners can go ahead with the 14,868-square-foot project.
ZONING STANDARDS
The commission approved two zoning code amendments and sent the
rest back to staff members for revision.
The two approved amendments pertain to mobile homes. One changes
the definition of mobile homes to include recreational vehicles when
they are used as a permanent residence.
The other revises the definition of a mobile home lot, excluding
lots where the park owner owns the mobile home sitting on the lot.
That will prevent those lots from being affected by the city’s mobile
home park conversion procedures.
Other proposed zoning code amendments were sent back for further
review.
WHAT IT MEANS
The City Council will now decide what to do with the commission’s
recommended changes to the zoning code.
The other items will be looked at again by the planning
commission, which will have some new members when it comes back for
its next meeting.
