Article captured

other side of war

We enjoyed, very much, reading the article written about R. B.

Alexander (“Returning to the frontline”). We have received several

articles on the Internet regarding a totally different view of how

the war in Iraq is going.

The conduct and, of course, the bravery of our troops have been

sadly slanted by the media in their coverage of the war. On TV, we

seem to see mostly the negative and little of the positive. We are

supportive of our brave men and women and need to let them know that

patriotism is running strong here at home.

They are doing great things. Thank you very much for this

terrific, heartwarming article; how proud we are to be Americans.

Rushing parents too hasty to see danger

We moved to Holiday Road in Newport Beach almost a year ago. We

love it here except for the speeding cars. Kaiser and Woodland

schools are just a block away, and we have been shocked to see how

fast some of the parents drive on this quiet residential street on

the way to school.

This is a 25 mph zone, and I have actually been passed a couple of

times because I was going 25 mph. It just amazes me to see parents on

the phone driving giant SUVs at high rates of speed on their way to

school without any concern for our kids.

There has been talk of speed-reduction measures by the City

Council. I hope this street is being considered. A couple of speed

bumps would be more than welcome.

Resident sincerity

is missing in debate

I am voicing some concern that the tail seems to be wagging the

dog here. I’m a relative newcomer to this area but have chosen St.

Andrew’s as my church, and I am concerned that it has decreased its

expansion by 40%.

Church officials have offered to pay an undisclosed amount to

reconfigure the Newport Harbor High parking lot to solve the problem,

and according to an article in 2001, the church proposed contributing

60% of the funds for a parking structure that would have provided 525

to 800 parking spaces on the school campus that also could have been

used by the church.

I am left with some doubt as to the sincerity of the people, the

commission and neighbors in wanting to really resolve this problem.

Do they just want to push the church out?

Seeing a fine,

gray legal line

Regarding the possible move of Kobe Bryant’s civil trial to Orange

County, I’m curious: Where do the lines of justice end and extortion

begin?
