Council to honor three with Mayor’s Award
Diane and Paul Hill and Gordon West are the latest recipients of
the Costa Mesa Mayor’s Award, which recognizes individuals in the
community who have performed an outstanding service, act or good
deed.
They were nominated for their outstanding volunteer contributions
in developing the first Costa Mesa Citizens Corps Volunteer
Management Team and enlisting residents in neighborhood
disaster-preparedness courses. They will be recognized by Mayor Gary
Monahan on Nov. 15 at the City Council meeting. The award
presentation will start at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Costa
Mesa City Hall.
West is one of the founding members of Mesa Emergency Services
Amateur Communications, which provides communication support through
the amateur radio system to the city in times of emergencies,
disasters, emergency training and public-service events.
The Hills have completed CPR and Community Emergency Response Team
training throughout the city and have set up neighborhood meetings to
invite residents to become involved in disaster preparedness.
Together, West and the Hills have trained more than 200 Costa Mesa
residents to prepare for emergencies.
