Sea Kings place 9th
The Corona del Mar High girls golf team finished ninth among 16 teams
at the CIF Southern Section team finals Monday at Las Posas Country
Club in Camarillo.
“This is the best we’ve ever done,” Sea Kings Coach Mike
Starkweather said with pride. “We’ve never made it to the big dance,
but we were there today. And there are no divisions in golf.”
Katie Albright shot 17-over-par 89 to pace the Sea Kings, on a
course that was particularly tough, Starkweather said.
“It was so hilly, there were a lot of blind shots, and the greens
were lightning,” Starkweather said. “It was like putting on a
linoleum floor, with one side six feet higher than the other. It was
crazy.”
Katie McKitterick (90), Jonna Kim (91), Caitlin McDonald (94),
Michelle Albrecht (102) and Maggie Nelson (102) also contributed for
CdM.
McKitterick, the Pacific Coast League runner-up, continues her
season Thursday in the CIF individual finals at Mission Lakes Country
Club in Desert Hot Springs.
