Eagles come up short

* Visiting Los Amigos High used a strong counterattack to pull

away in the third quarter Saturday as the Lobos rallied to defeat

Estancia, 13-9, in a nonleague boys water polo game.

“We had a great second quarter,” said Estancia Coach John

Carpenter, whose team took a 5-4 halftime lead after outscoring Los

Amigos, 4-0, in the second.

Senior Sean Goodman paced Estancia (10-9) with a season-high five

goals, while Chad Kunert added three goals and Eagle senior Richard

McElveney contributed seven goalie saves.

After Los Amigos (9-13) took a 7-6 lead after three quarters, the

Lobos outscored the hosts, 6-3, in the fourth quarter.

“In the fourth quarter, [the Lobos] ran a different kind of

offense and we didn’t adapt to their plans,” said Carpenter, whose

team will host Mater Dei at 3 p.m. Monday and Costa Mesa in the

Golden West League finale at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
