Commission approves expansion request

The Costa Mesa Planning Commission Monday unanimously approved a

request from Angela Danciu, representing property owners Ed and Jim

Miltenburg, for a permit to allow the expansion of an auto body

repair/paint shop into another unit on a property within 200 feet of

a residential zone.

The company, G & D Auto Collision, is at 2085 Placentia Ave.

The business is in an industrial building and already occupies the

last three units in the building, at the rear of the lot. Since the

request was approved, all business operations will have to be

conducted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Meeting to focus on future infrastructure

The UC Irvine Civil and Environmental Engineering affiliates

invite the public to their next meeting on Oct. 22, titled

“California Infrastructure -- 2025, the First Quarter Century.”

At this meeting, they will look at the best guesstimates of actual

infrastructure needs in Southern California over the first quarter of

this century, plus the likelihood of actually achieving these needs.

The meeting starts with a full buffet breakfast at 7 a.m., with the

program starting at 7:45 a.m. Cost is $15 at the door. The event will

take place at the University Club on campus. For more information,

call Jayne Hess at (949) 824-4757.

Pig out on pizza at charity fundraiser

The Fairview Park Friends/Fundraising Committee invites the

community to participate in its first Pizza Hut “Fun”draiser at all

three Costa Mesa Pizza Hut locations.

Until Monday, the restaurant will donate 20% of all carry-out and

delivery purchases when customers present a “Fun”draiser coupon. All

proceeds will support the development and implementation of the

Fairview Park Master Plan, which includes eliminating nonnative plant

life, establishing native plant communities, restoring vernal pools

and protecting wildlife.

The coupon and the master plan are accessible on the Fairview Park

webpage at https://www.cmfairviewpark.org or at City Hall. For more

information, call (714) 754-5688. The three Pizza Hut locations are:

the southeast corner of Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue; 1901

Placentia Ave.; and 261 E. 17th St.

Find ‘Nemo’ at Park Friends weekend event

The Fairview Park Friends Committee is inviting the community to

participate in the second annual Lounge Chair Theatre at Fairview

Park Saturday.

The outdoor movie event will feature “Finding Nemo,” an Academy

Award-winning animated movie. At 6 p.m., there will be a short

presentation on Fairview Park. The movie begins at sunset, around

6:30 p.m., east of the picnic shelter on the park’s west side.

The event will include pre-movie games for children. Popcorn,

beverages and glow sticks will be sold by the Fairview Park Friends

Committee. The Victoria School PTA and Costa Mesa Boy Scouts will

sell hamburgers, hot dogs and Polish sausages, with a portion of the

proceeds to fund future implementation of the park’s master plan

elements.

Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs, jackets,

blankets, pillows and flashlights and to come early to get a prime

spot on the lawn. For more information, call the Fairview Friends
