Breakers drop Bright Bombers, 3-1
With the score tied at one apiece in the second half, the Breakers’
Christina Young scored on a penalty shot to put the AYSO Region 97
girls under-12 soccer team in the lead on the way to a 3-1 victory
Saturday over the Bright Bombers. She scored again with two minutes
remaining to put the game out of reach.
Tempest Blaine scored the first goal of the game early on, but the
Bombers quickly answered back with a breakaway goal.
In the second half, defenders Sophie Leveque and Syndey Clayton
made great throw-ins to forwards Robin Young and Rebecca Arnold to
help set up Young’s last shot.
* Silent from scoring so far this year, Newport Beach’s Kelly
Rorden found the goal early in the first quarter to tie the game 1-1
against Irvine. Christie Ohlhaver, Emily D’Ippolito, Lauren
D’Ippolito and Erika Page also scored for Newport.
* Newport Beach 5, Laguna Niguel 0
Danielle Healy opened up the scoring with an outside shot to put
Newport out in front 1-0. Nicole Baker came right back on Newport’s
next time down to score on a pass from Brianna Truxton, who scored
two other goals.
Megan Case and Chelsea Barth also scored for Newport and Ava
Nelson, Meghan Nance and Sarah Buckingham led the defense.
In girls under-10 play:
* Pink Pussycats 0, Gryffindor Seekers 2
The Pussycats’ Danica Hurley, Gianna Light, Courtney Buck,and
Casey Duckworth combined to take more than 12 shots against the
Gryffindor Seekers, but came up scoreless.
* Purple Piranhas 4, Green Machine 0
The high scorer for the Piranhas was Sara Hamilton, who was
assisted by August Sullivan and Morgan Long.
Taylor Morgan, Katelynne Dangl, Torey Thompson and Tristen
Thompson, also played offense and defense to their full potential.
Goalie Hanna Roman, with the help of Rachel Gray and Olivia Ilkcagla,
had the shut-out for the Piranhas.
* Surf Chicks 3, Orange Crush 0
Shannon Henderson scored a hat trick, booting in three goals for
the Surf Chicks in their 3-0 defeat of the Orange Crush on
Saturday.Henderson scored her goals in each of the first three
quarters.
Brinley Siemonsma, Louisa Dodge and Hannah Nance led the defense.
* The Rip Curls defense shined with superb playing by Roxanna
Crane, Page Keys, Monika Peterson, Samantha Singer & Allison Kahn
which helped the offense score four goals, three coming from Madison
Jabara.
Jabara scored her first goal on a breakaway and her last goal was
assisted by Keys. Nikki Walsh scored the fourth goal for the Rip
Curls with help on offense from Hayley Newett, Catherine Connelly and
Savannah Baron.
* Angels 2, Stingers 1
Solid defense by Hannah Walker enabled the Angels’ Alice Miller
and Kelsey Long to score.
The Stingers scored early in the thirdand dominated the entire
period as Samantha De Feoand Emily Conant put the pressure on the
Stingers’ offense. In the final quarter, Julia Freiand Caroline
Johnson stepped up their defense to neutralize the Stingers attack
and hold on for the 2-1 win.
In boys under-10 play:
* Avalanche 5, UFOs 0
An aggressive defense, balanced field play and big offensive plays
led to a 5-0 Avalanche win over the UFOs. Nic Sargeant, assisted by
Sam Jones, Joey Gregory and Chris Buchanan, scored twice in each
half.
Kevin Rakestraw hooked up with Gage Coffelt for the other
Avalanche goal, while Gordon Lewis, Riley Ricker and Scott Grew
cleared UFOs’ offensive pushes into the Avalanche defensive zone.
Rory Fleming blocked numerous shots and Parker Martinez turned
away a penalty kick late in the game.
* Raiders 2, Devil Rays 3
Bryan Shollin, Keaton Hirsch and Blake Smith played up front for
the Raiders, while Grant Moore and Griffin Leggett handled the
midfield.
Charlie Barber and Cameron Candelaria started at defensive
fullback, with Dylan Roe at sweeper and Connor Leggett at goalkeeper.
Leggett and Bryan Shollin scored the goals for the Raiders.
The Devil Rays’ offense was led by Bob Boullon, R.J. Roberts, Max
Johnson, and Marc Gehlke. The midfield was controlled by Isaiah
Suarez, Lee Stevens, and T.J. Tarazevits.
* Patriots 2, Tiger Sharks 1
The Patriots tamed the Tiger Sharks in their 2-1 victory Saturday
with Jack Thompson doing a good job in holding the Tiger Sharks at
bay. Michael Polasek scored the first goal for the Patriots, off of
an assist by Pierce Ward.
Holden Curran, Max Gamboa and Nick Roman contributed on offense
and Alec Farrage, Michael Schultz and Marco Bruscia, countered on
defense.
Jack Williamson scored the winning goal.
In girls under-8 play:
* Purple Panthers vs. Pink Panthers
The Purple Panther goalies Leah Castillo, Rachel Whitelegge and
Carlee Kapana stopped several shots by the Pink Panthers. Kappy
Fuller, Carlee Kapana and Leah Castillo took several shots, but
couldn’t hit. Libby Knight scored the only Purple Panther goal.
In boys under-8 play:
* Inferno Balls vs. Predators
Under a blazing afternoon sun, the red and white Inferno Balls met
the blue and white Predators. Camden Daily, Jack Heald, David
Hartman, Joe Ahearn and Zach Granoff led the defense for the Inferno
Balls, and Landon Knight lead the offense with one goal.
In girls under-7 play:
* Firecrackers vs. Pink Piranhas
The Firecrackers had another great game Saturday with a solid team
effort coming from Kate Hefner, Sydney Conn, Sienna Keillor, Alexis
Abrams, Seneca Fuller and Julianna Eifler.
Peyton Espley-Jones, Clair Olmstead and JoJo Stassel provided the
Firecracker firepower with goals and assists.
* Green Gators vs. Firecrackers
Megan Keys, Olivia Jones and Jacque DeFeo all had goals to lead
the Green Gators against the Fire Crackers.
Solid play from Sarah Boese, Emily Goltz, Katie Kearns and Paige
Tamblyn helped the Gators.
In boys under-7 play:
* The Salty Sea Dawgs were led by goalie Jordan, who had two
saves. He was supported by Sean Korkmaz, Jake Weyrich and Jack
Rapillo.
J.D. Dennis, Kingston McCarthy and Jeremiah Sheldon all had goals
for the Dawgs.
* Trojans vs. Volcano Dragons
Chase Braun held The Volcano Dragons from scoring in the first
half and Jack Beeker, Mikey Plecas and Michael Clark were part of a
tough Trojan defense that kept the ball up field.
Matt Brodie and Sam Launder both scored goals for the Trojans
andCooper Hendrix and Luis Mora played aggressively on defense.
* Sun Devils vs. Stingers
The Sun Devils and Stingers played a tough game with only one goal
being scored between the two teams. Sun Devils’ goalkeeper Ryan Young
fed the ball well to Jack Cornuke and Jack McKasson.
Peter Bush and Wilson Lubeck covered forwards Sam Skinner and Alex
Borlin as they moved the ball well into Bombers’ territory.
In girls under-6 play:
* Blue Dolphins vs. Hi-Lighters
Led by Kailey Hambek with two goals and the help of Amanda Wilson
and Kendall Machado on defense, the Blue Dolphins battled the
Hi-Lighters in a closely contested contest. Paige Okey, Abby Flores
and Marissa Cislaw contributed with good ball-handling skills.
* Flamingos vs. Dolphins
Erika Ellis scored two goals, one on a pass from Madeline Phillips
in the Flamingos vs. Dolphins match up. McKenzie Porteous was
aggressive and stayed with the ball the entire game, while Paige
Fults slid into the ball to stop a Dolphin goal. Mandy Tapfer, Kate
Mc Allister Julia Ackerman remained aggressive.
The Blue Sharks played another powerful game against the Rock-Star
Dragons, with goals being scored by Taylor Craig, Lauren Vissman,
Danielle Wilson and Lily Woodall.
In boys under-6 play:
* Cheetahs vs. Silver Tigers
Jack McClintock led the Cheetah attack, scoring five goals. Ashe
Deering made another three, and Chandler Siemonsma added one more.
The Cheetah defense, including Joshua Jenkins, Jon Hodges, James
Hodges and Lucas Hodges, also played aggressively, limiting the
Tigers to one goal.
* Riding Giants vs. Green Geckos
Great defensive stops by Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt, who prevented
two breakaway goals by the Green Geckos, and excellent steals by
Corbin Joyce and Jacob Duehring, led the Riding Giants against a
competitive Gecko team.
Connor led the team with three goals, while Jake Smith made good
passes in setting up goals. Jake, Jacob, Corbin and Andrew Stoneman
also scored.
* Purple Dragons vs. Blue Surfers
The Purple Dragons had a tough game against the Blue Surfers.
Dominic Loftus scored for the Dragons and Malcolm Davis and Ben
Toffel had many attacks the net. Chase Adelsohn and Max Toffel
provided a strong defense.
In boys under-5 play:
* Stingrays vs Dynomites
The Stingrays, from the boys U5 division, played the Dynomites
Sept. 18. Jake Edler had a crossing assist to his teammate for a
goal, while Pasha Dastmalchi played a big part on defense. Jake
Bashore, Joshua Gehlke, Cameron Weiss and Jagger Mitchell all scored
goals for the Stingrays.
* Stingrays vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Stingrays played again Saturday Sept. 25 against the Red Hot
Chili Peppers. The Stingrays held on with Jagger Mitchell leading the
defense and scoring a goal. Cameron Weiss also scored and Jake Edler,
Jake Bashore and Pasha Dastmalchi all had assists.
* GreenBulldogs vs. Red and Grey Hawks
Billy Shannon, Ben Zehnder and Joe Skinner all scored goals for
the Green Bulldogs. Eann McKasson led the defense.
* Stingers vs. Blue Barracudas
Forrest Faigen, Scott Ryder, Max Sandberg and Cole McFetters all
scored goals for the Stingers. The Blue Barracudas came back with
many goals of their own and provided a formidable defense.
