Sea Kings handle San Clemente
Jillian Braverman and Rachael Miller each swept their singles sets
while the doubles duo of Jill Damion and Miranda Young claimed all
three sets to lead the Corona del Mar High girls tennis team to a
16-2 nonleague triumph over host San Clemente Wednesday.
Hayley Young and Jamie Steele, along with the duo of Roxanne
Kaiden and Lindsay Norman, each took two sets for the Sea Kings
(5-1), who begin Pacific Coast League play when they host Tesoro at
3:15 p.m. today.

Navarrette sparks Mesa
* VOLLEYBALL: Lindsey Navarrette tallied a team-high 11 kills
while Tracy Bjelland amassed 15 digs and five service aces to help
the Costa Mesa High girls volleyball team down host Saddleback,
25-16, 25-20, 25-14, in a Golden West League match Wednesday.
Danielle Morton finished with 10 kills while Jackie Havens added
five aces and 24 assists for Mesa (3-2, 2-1 in league), which played
without returning starters Vera Gale and Heather Williams, who both
sat out with sprained ankles.
Saddleback fell to 0-5, 0-3 in league.
Pirates stop Saddleback
* WATER POLO: Host Orange Coast College scored five second-half
goals to pull away and defeat Saddleback, 8-3, in an Orange Empire
Conference women’s water polo match Wednesday.
Jeanette DeMeneces’ four goals led the Pirates (5-3, 1-1 in the
OEC) while teammate Brittany Kane added three. Erin Harvey added a
single goal and Katherine Anderson made five saves in goal for Coast.

Eagles swept by Seahawks
* VOLLEYBALL: Ocean View High’s girls volleyball team defeated
host Estancia, 25-13, 25-21, 25-21, in Golden West League action
Wednesday.
Jaye Hellmich (14 kills), Courtney Fletcher (11 digs), Stacie Watson (26 assists) and Betzy Vasquex (three aces) sparked the Eagles
(2-3, 1-1 in league).
Poway subdues Sailors
* GOLF: Kayleigh Horn led the Newport Harbor High girls golf team
with a 38, but the Sailors lost to visiting Poway, 211-237, in a
nonleague match Wednesday on the par-36 Santa Ana Country Club.
Natalie Draganza carded a 43 while teammates Ashley Jacobs (48),
Kendall Horn (51) and Iko Kagasoff (57) contributed for the Sailors
(2-3, 0-1 in the Sea View League).
The Sailors face league foe Aliso Niguel at Aliso Viejo Golf Club
today.
Lions edged at home
* SOCCER: Mary Willis of Christian Heritage College entered the
game for the first time in the 66th minute and 15 minutes later scored the only goal as the Hawks edged host Vanguard, 1-0, in Golden
State Athletic Conference women’s soccer action Wednesday.
Kim Becher had one goalie saves for the Lions (4-3-1, 0-1 in the
GSAC).
Gauchos beat Pirates
* WATER POLO: Anthony Terzo tallied a game-high four goals to help
lead the Saddleback College men’s water polo team to a 12-10 Orange
Empire Conference victory over host Orange Coast Wednesday.
Austin Price led the Pirates (2-6, 0-2 in the OEC) with three
goals while David Gomez added two. Nathan Marsteller, who played at
Estancia High, made six saves for OCC.
Saddleback improved to 2-4, 1-1 in the OEC.
