The Ocean View High girls’ volleyball team successfully launched its

Golden West League season with a 25-8, 25-13, 25-16 sweep of visiting

Saddleback.

Kaitlin Potter had seven kills and Hayley Hanson dished out 13

assists to lead the Seahawks, who improved to 3-0 overall.

In a rematch of the final of the Dave Mohs Tournament, Edison took

on Corona del Mar and, again, the Chargers downed the Sea Kings.

The match wasn’t as close as the tournament final, as the Chargers

posted a 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 sweep of the visiting Sea Kings.

The one-two punch of Colleen Burke and Kelly Hyder led Edison with

12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Huntington Beach was impressive in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 nonleague

sweep of host Newport Harbor.

Shannon Hybel and Felicia Ciarelli each had nine kills for the

Oilers.

In boys’ water polo, Sunset League rivals Marina and Edison met in

consolation round play of the prestigious South Coast Tournament, and

it was the Vikings who squeezed out a 6-5 win.

In first-round action, Edison defeated Sunset League foe

Esperanza, 11-9. The Chargers’ Travis Bee led all players with four

goals.

Edison also lost to Newport Harbor, 13-8, and Bee again scored

four goals.

In nonleague water polo, Huntington Beach outlasted visiting

Saddleback, 10-8. Andrew Kreitz scored four goals and Sean McLaughlin

scored three times to lead the Oilers.

In girls’ tennis, Huntington Beach scored a pair of impressive

nonleague victories.

The Oilers began their week with a 13-5 win over visiting Mission

Viejo.

Lauren Pascoe, at No. 1 singles, earned a 3-0 sweep and No. 2

Jennifer Heumann won two of three.

Sisters Amy and Stacy Kaufman, at No. 1 doubles, and the Oilers’

No. 2 team of Elaine Nguyen and Kelly Wong each swept their three

Diablos opponents.

Christina Le and Monica Stupaczuk, playing No. 3 doubles, won two

of three.

Huntington followed that win with an 18-0 shutout of Cypress.

Pascoe and Heumann were 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles play.
