Sports-car test drive concludes as arrest

A Santa Ana woman’s extended test drive in a new Porsche came to

an abrupt end Wednesday morning.

Newport Beach Police arrested 38-year-old Karen Elizabeth Servin

on suspicion of vehicle theft after she drove off with a new Porsche

Carrera from the Newport Auto Center at 445 East Coast Highway,

Newport Beach Police Lt. Jim Kaminsky said.

Servin allegedly returned from the drive, dropped off the

salesperson and took off in the car, leaving her own car behind,

Kaminsky said. She originally went on a test drive with the

salesperson in the passenger seat at about 11 a.m. Wednesday,

Kaminsky said.

The salesperson then called police to report the theft. A Newport

Beach burglary detective spotted the Porsche driving north on the

Costa Mesa Freeway, Kaminsky said. Police pulled the car over just

before the San Diego Freeway interchange and took Servin into

custody.

Servin was booked into the Orange County Women’s Jail and is being

held on $20,000 bail. She is scheduled for an arraignment on Friday

at the Harbor Justice Center.
