Britney Webster of UC Irvine scored on a rebound in the second half

as the Anteaters’ women’s soccer team opened the season Friday night

with a 1-0 home victory over San Jose State in nonconference action

before 567 fans.

Alyson Spencer was credited with an assist on Webster’s goal at

63:19. San Jose State attempted five shots on goal, but UCI keeper

Marissa Welliver had no save chances in 90 minutes. San Jose State

goalkeeper Adrienne Herbst recorded five saves.

The Anteaters go on the road to face the San Diego Toreros, Sunday

at 1:00 p.m. in San Diego.
