Brady Anderson, who played three seasons for the UC Irvine baseball

team in the mid-’80s before embarking on a 15-year major league

career was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles’ Hall of Fame during a

ceremony at Oriole Park at Camden Yards Saturday.

Anderson, 40, a center fielder who ranks third in UCI career

annals in walks (102) and triples (14), was a three-time all-star in

14 seasons with the Orioles -- he retired in 2002 after one season

with the Cleveland Indians.

The leadoff hitter with the trademark holds four single-season

records for the Baltimore franchise, including three from 1996.

His 50 home runs that year -- second in the majors -- eclipsed the

prior record of 49 set by Frank Robinson in 1966. Anderson also set

club records in total bases (369) and extra-base hits (92) -- the

latter led the majors -- as the Orioles made the first of two

straight trips to the American League Championship Series before

bowing out both times.

Anderson, a .256 lifetime hitter, amassed a .300 batting average

through four postseason series with the Orioles, tallying 24 hits in

80 at-bats.

Anderson finished his 15 major league seasons with a .256 career

batting average, 210 home runs, 761 RBIs and 1,062 runs scored. He

led the majors three seasons in the hit-by-pitch category.

The speedy Anderson -- he is the Orioles’ all-time leader in

steals (307) -- was drafted by the Red Sox in the 10th round of the

1985 amateur draft after his UCI career (‘83-’85). Anderson’s 52

walks in the 1985 season are also a UCI single-season record. His

eight triples in 1984 rank third in Anteater single-season annals.

He made his professional debut with the Red Sox in 1988 and was

acquired by the Orioles later that season.

Orioles’ Hall of Famers Cal Ripken Jr., Earl Weaver, Boog Powell,

Mike Flanagan and Rick Dempsey were on-hand to welcome Anderson

during Saturday’s ceremony.
