Police make arrests in alleged card theft
After police arrested two people on suspicion of breaking into
cars near Lang Park to steal credit cards, officers learned the pair
may be involved in more crimes in the San Diego area.
The pair, Josh Wyatt Nelson, 30, of Oceanside and Michelle Lynn
Salisbury, 40, of Oceanside, were spotted by a witness near Lang Park
at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Det. Matt August said. A woman reportedly
saw Nelson break into a Mercedes and an SUV. When she confronted
Nelson, he ran away toward the Albertson’s shopping center carrying
several credit cards he allegedly stole out of the SUV.
As the woman called 911, she was allegedly threatened by
Salisbury, who got out of a green Toyota 4-Runner she and Nelson had
planned to use as getaway car, August said.
Salisbury reportedly threatened to kill the witness before getting
back in the car and driving off, picking Nelson up at the shopping
center’s parking structure.
The witness was able to give police dispatchers a description of
the suspects, and the 4-Runner’s license plate number, August said.
Moments later, the pair were spotted by Sgt. Bob Rahaeuser, who
pulled them over on Glenneyre Street between Cleo and Catalina
streets. More police arrived and detained Nelson and Salisbury.
The witness identified Nelson and Salisbury, though the credit
cards were never recovered, police said. The pair are subjects in a
major credit card fraud case in San Diego County.
“We’re going to be working with San Diego Sheriff’s detectives
with this case,” August said.
Nelson was booked on suspicion of vehicular burglary and released
on bail. Salisbury is being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion
of making criminal threats.
Pedestrian hit on Ocean Avenue
A pedestrian was taken to South Coast Medical Center after she was
reportedly hit by a car though she suffered no visible injuries,
police said.
At about 9:30 a.m. Monday, Virginia Lewis, 57, of Laguna Beach,
was walking out from between two parked cars on Ocean Avenue when she
was reportedly struck by a Kia driven by 46-year-old New York
resident Saul Shina, police said. The car was not damaged.
Lewis has since been released from the hospital, and Shina was not
cited. The incident is still under investigation.
