Lost Pro Junior, U.S. Open semis fields...

Lost Pro Junior, U.S. Open semis fields set

Following three preliminary rounds of competition held earlier in

the week at the Huntington Beach Pier, the semifinals field for the

Lost Junior Pro and U.S. Open of Longboarding has been set.

Leading the charge in the $10,000 Lost Junior Pro was Florida’s

Jeremy Johnston, who recorded Monday’s highest wave score of 8.67 in

quarterfinal round action.

Joining Johnston in Saturday’s Lost Junior Pro semifinals are

fellow Floridian Eric Taylor, Ben Dunn of Australia, Brazil’s Adriano

De Souza and Jean Da Silva and Hawaii’s Kekoa Bacalso, Nathan Carroll

and Dustin Cuizon.

Bacalso is two-time defending junior champion.

In the U.S. Open of Longboarding, Colin McPhilips of Capistrano

Beach defeated former O’Neill U.S. Open of Longboarding champion Joel

Tudor (Cardiff) to advance to the quarterfinal round.

In the quarterfinal round, McPhilips recorded the round’s highest

overall heat score, a 16.10.

Joining McPhilips in Sunday’s U.S. Open of Longboarding semifinals

are Malibu’s Zach Howard, Taylor Jensen of Imperial Beach, Josh

Baxter of San Clemente, Josh Constable and Brendan White.

In the early preliminary rounds of the U.S. Open of Surfing men’s

division, San Clemente’s Travis Mellem had the highest overall heat

score with a 14.44, which put him ahead of France’s Tim Boal.

Huntington Beach’s Danny Nichols also had a winning heat score

with an 11.84.

Other California surfers posting winning heat scores Monday

included Ryan Simmons (Seal Beach), 12.23; Justin Wiegand

(Encinitas), 12.10; Matt Yates (Encinitas), 10.00; and Chris Drummy

(San Clemente), 12.50.

Water Polo Club extends sessions

Golden West Water Polo Club has extended its summer sessions.

The extended camp dates are Aug. 3 through 26. The cost is $75 per

players.

The club team is open to youngsters in grades two through eight.

Practice times and days between Aug. 3 and 26 are 5:45 to 7:30

p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, at the Golden West College pool.
