Founded in 1929, local Realtors association changes name again

The Orange Coast Assn. of Realtors has changed its name to the

Newport Beach Assn. of Realtors to better identify the organization

for online searchers, association Executive Vice President Tricia

Moore said. It’s the latest in a series of name changes the group has

gone through over the years.

“We decided to change it back to Newport Beach because Orange

Coast isn’t a city, even though everybody around here knows what

Orange Coast is,” Moore said.

She added that more people are using the Internet to search for

homes today, and they might not find the group if they’re

specifically looking for Newport Beach.

Founded in 1929, the real estate agents’ group provides home sales

listings for Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, holds ethics hearings over

public complaints about real estate brokers, and provides brokers

with services.

Moore said its name has been the Newport Harbor, Costa Mesa and

Newport Mesa Assn. of Realtors, and it was changed to Orange Coast in

the late 1990s because members thought it would grow to encompass

more coastal communities.
