Day wins high jump
Sharon Day, a former Costa Mesa High standout, won the women’s high
jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 0 3/4 inches at the U.S. junior
track and field championships at Texas A&M; University Saturday.
Day, who will be a sophomore at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the
fall, also qualified for the U.S. team that will compete in the world
junior championships July 13-18 in Grosetto, Italy.
Day, the 2003 CIF State champion in the high jump, finished ahead
of second-place Inika McPherson, who cleared 5-11 1/2 and also
qualified for Team USA.
Allison Stokke, a Newport Harbor sophomore-to-be and the 2004 CIF
State girls pole vault champion, will be competing today.
