Sportsworld downs VFW
Sportsworld overcame an early 2-0 deficit and rallied to subdue VFW,
11-6, in Laguna Beach Majors Division play at Riddle Field.
Alex Bekken picked up an RBI in the top of the first inning as VFW
took a 2-0 lead.
Steve Contursi began Sportworld’s comeback with a hit off the
fence in right-center. Two VFW errors led to two runs, and the score
was tied at 2-2. By the end of the first inning, Sportsworld had
scored two more runs, one coming on a Taylor Preston RBI, to take a
4-2 lead.
Stevie Contursi showed no adverse signs of the spring break,
striking out five in 2 2/3 innings.
Zack Riegler went to the mound for the entire night, adding six
strikeouts to his season record.
Brenden Ferguson and Griffin McMullen opened the bottom of the
second with doubles, and Ryan Raffo had an RBI and later scored as
Sportsworld built its lead to 7-2.
After walks forced in four runs in the third to bring VFW to
within 7-6, Wyatt Ininns laid down an RBI squeeze bunt and Contursi
smacked a two-run double for a 10-6 lead after three innings.
Michael Opera closed out the scoring when he doubled and later
scored in the fourth.

Rotary 5, FireFighters 2
Raphael Vickers, Will Bonsey and Michael Maxsenti combined to toss
a three-hitter and Chris Lavery and Sawyer Pierce paved the way on
offense as Rotary downed the FireFighters on Monday.
Lavery and Pierce led the Rotary offensive attack with two hits
each.
Lavery put Rotary on the scoreboard first when his double drove in
Mikey Rubel, who had singled, in the bottom of the first.
The FireFighters came right back in the second, scoring two runs.
Ben Hanson’s double scored Brennan Mulvany and Ian Greene had an RBI
single, resulting in a 2-1 lead.
Rotary managed to gain control in the bottom of the third when
Sammy Witte scored on a wild throw, Lavery hit his second RBI double
of the contest and Maxsenti hit an RBI single for a 4-2 lead.
Bonsey and Maxsenti combined to shut down the FireFighters over
the final three innings, yielding a single to Hanson while striking
out six.
Rotary, which added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth,
won its sixth consecutive game to improve its season record to 11-1.
Rotary 13, Sportsworld 1
Rotary banged out 18 hits, and Raphael Vickers and Michael
Maxsenti teamed on a two-hitter.
All 12 Rotary players had at least one hit. Chris Lavery doubled
and singled, Maxsenti, Mikey Rubel, Drew Wheeler, Will Bonsey and
Michael Niebuhr each had two hits, Michael Hyden doubled and Bonsey
also had an RBI groundout.
Vickers and Maxsenti combined to allow just two walks and no
earned runs.
Sportsworld scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning
when Travis Sampson singled and scored on Kellen Lindley’s groundout.
Rotary 8, Dodgers 0
Michael Hyden and Will Bonsey combined to no-hit the San Juan
Capistrano Dodgers and were backed by an error-free defense.
The duo struck out 14 of the 19 batters they faced and allowed
only one baserunner.
Offensively, Chris Lavery and Raphael Vickers led Rotary’s 13-hit
effort as Lavery belted two home runs and Vickers had three hits,
including a double, in three plate appearances.
Lavery hit a two-run homer over the left field fence in the
bottom-half of the first inning and added a two-run shot in the
bottom of the fifth, the latter giving Rotary an 8-0 lead.
Hyden doubled and singled and Michael Maxsenti had two hits.
