Jury selected in gang rape case
A jury has been selected in a high-profile gang rape case in which
three teens are accused of raping an unconscious 16-year-old girl in
a Corona del Mar home.
The jury consisting of eight men and four women will hear opening
statements from attorneys on Monday. Four jurors, comprising three
men and one woman, were selected as alternate jurors.
On Wednesday, attorneys “set parameters and procedures relating to
the order and content of the opening statements,” said Pete Scalisi,
the attorney representing one of the defendants, Greg Haidl, who is
the son of Orange County Assistant Sheriff Don Haidl.
Greg Haidl, Kyle Nachreiner and Keith Spann are accused of
sexually assaulting the girl in Don Haidl’s Corona del Mar home.
On Wednesday, attorneys for the Los Angeles Times and Orange
County Register argued before Judge Francisco Briseno that the jury
questionnaires be made public. The judge is expected to rule on that
matter on May 6.
The trial, which begins on Monday, is expected to continue until
the last week of June.
