Season ends for Edison grapplers
The season has come to an end for the Edison High wrestling team,
which sent five members to last weekend’s CIF Masters Meet at
Fountain Valley High School.
None of the five Charger wrestlers were able to qualify for
Friday’s CIF state finals in Bakersfield.
Two juniors, Brandon Drucker at 125, and Dylan Jensen at 130, did
go undefeated on the first day of action on Friday.
Both reached Saturday’s quarterfinal round, where they were
eliminated from title contention.
Mike McNeely (152) and Matt Fabre (130), Edison’s two most
consistent wrestlers throughout the season, also qualified for the
masters meet.
Fabre suffered an injury in his first match Friday -- he was
leading at the time -- and had to forfeit that match, as well as his
next match, which eliminated the senior.
McNeely, also a senior, won his first match, was upset in the
second round, then won a consolation match before being eliminated.
Senior Jeff Mendoza, wrestling at 140, went 2-2 at the tournament.
Edison’s outstanding year saw the school claim its first Sunset
League championship in 15 years.
