CdM advances to semifinals
The Corona del Mar boys under-12 AYSO Region 57 soccer team advanced
to the semifinals of area play with two victories.
CdM defeated North Irvine, 1-0, in the first game of pool play
while shutting down Tustin, 5-2, in Game 2.
Ryan Kontra scored the lone goal with an assist from Sebastien
Welch in the first game.
Both teams played aggressive defense with Pierce Stemler, Alex
Ludlow, Cole Vance, Patrick Vorwerck and Jamie Heinecke leading the
charge.
Jake Pelligrini, Preston Risser and Nick Taormina secured the
shutout as goalkeepers.
Risser, Jarrett Logan, Nick Flamson and Aaron Varasteh controlled
the midfield.
Logan and Taormina scored two goals each while Flamson, Kontra,
Jack Gerdau and Donald Dalton added assists in the victory against
Tustin.
Varasteh scored the final goal following a free kick by Stemler.
Heinecke, Ludlow, Vorwerck, Vance and Welch again led the defense
while Pelligrini and Risser were strong in goal.
Tustin hadn’t allowed five goals in all its games combined until
they faced CdM.
