The center of attention

Based upon months of outreach to the homeowners in Newport Coast, it

is quite evident that the vast majority of the folks support the

program. I personally was involved in exposure of the plan to the

community at the Pavilion Center and at a function held by the

Newport MOMS club -- an all-day event around Halloween -- and

clearly, an overwhelming amount of the folks supported it.

I think it’s a wonderful idea. I think that every community needs

to have a center to focus its activities upon. A library is

wonderful, and there’s a big need for additional gymnasiums in the

whole city of Newport Beach. It’s a wonderful location to have it.

And I heartily support the efforts of the Newport Coast Advisory

Committee on getting us this far toward developing the Newport Coast

community building

I have been a resident of Newport Coast for 10 years.

I support the proposed community center at Newport Ridge Park, and

I feel that it will be an incredible facility and a real benefit to

both the residents both young and old who live here. The city of

Newport Beach is seriously lacking in public recreational facilities.

And with the state’s fiscal crisis, this center will never get

built unless we move forward using the funds that have been earmarked

specifically for this facility. This is a one-time opportunity to

take advantage of an offer that will provide a long-lasting benefit

for everyone in the coast and in the city.

I am calling to express support for the Newport Ridge community

center, which is going to be built soon I hope.

I am writing as a resident of Newport Coast, who is against the

center being built on the corner of San Joaquin Drive and Newport

Coast Road. I think it takes away from the Newport Ridge Park that is

well used by many soccer and baseball and other activities already.

By having these three or four Mediterranean buildings that are

proposed for the site it will further add congestion and traffic to

an already traffic-congested area. I’m not against a center, but I do

not think that is a place that it should be built.
