Trujillo keys Mesa’s win
Senior Susy Trujillo tied a career-high with 23 points to propel the
Costa Mesa High girls basketball team to a 57-22 victory over La
Quinta in a consolation quarterfinal of the Costa Mesa tournament
Saturday.
Trujillo, who drained five three-pointers, scored 15 of Mesa’s 19
first-quarter points as the Mustangs built a 19-4 lead after one
period and rebounded after an opening-round loss to San Ramon Valley
Friday.
Senior Ashley Kelly tallied a career-high with 10 points and added
five rebounds for Mesa (5-3), which made nine three-pointers.
Cassey Brick (eight points) made two threes.
Mesa battles Irvine at 1:30 p.m. today in the consolation
semifinals.
