‘THE QUILTMAKER’S GIFT’

The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre will be presenting the new

holiday musical “The Quiltmaker’s Gift,” making its West Coast

premiere today and run through Dec. 21. It’s an adaptation of a

popular children’s book by Jeff Brumbeau. Tickets range from $16 to

FOA RETROSPECTIVE POSTER SHOW

A retrospective of Festival of Arts event posters from the past 20

years is being presented at the Downtown Laguna Beach Wells Fargo

through Jan. 5. Works of past and present Festival exhibitors are the

subject. Many of the original paintings are part of the Festival of

Arts permanent art collection. The exhibit is on the third floor of

the Wells Fargo building at 260 Ocean Ave. The building is open to

the public Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.

LAGUNA COLLEGE

Laguna College of Art and Design in association with Forum Gallery

of New York and Los Angeles will host “New Directions in Figurative

Painting.” This fine art exhibition presents new work from four

figurative Artists. The exhibit is being held on the campus of Laguna

FAMILY SING-ALONG

Theatre will have a family sing-along with the renowned musician

WINTER FANTASY

It’s the final weekend for the 13th annual Sawdust Art Festival

Winter Fantasy featuring more than 170 fine artists and crafts people

RICHARD MACDONALD HOLIDAY PARTY

Richard MacDonald Fine Art Gallery will be holding its annual

Christmas party from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 and is presenting the

Hartfel Ballet as a featured guest artist. The gallery has a history

of showcasing artists of excellence and world acclaim and supporting

national outreach programs. The ballet will be appearing at the

gallery for its fourth time and the program will feature a new body

of work titled “In Spirit,” set to the music by Arvo Part and 15th

Century hymns. The pieces seek to honor all manner of spirituality

NEW EXHIBITS AT LAM

Laguna Art Museum is exhibiting, “Rebels in Clay: Peter Voulkos

and the Otis Group.” In the mid 50s, Voulkos led a revolution in clay

by questioning the tradition that ceramic forms must be functional

and instead created sculptural works that gave the medium a new

freedom of expression. “Feat of Clay: Five Decades of Jerry Rothman”

opens. In the 60s Laguna Beach ceramic sculptor Rothman became

well-known nationally for struggling to enlarge the scope of and to

overcome the limitations of ceramics that made it unsuitable for the

sculptural ambitions of the time. The exhibit includes his

controversial large scale triptychs of erotic figures and images of

LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE

Laguna Playhouse will present “The Romance of Magno Rubio,” which

is about a Filipino migrant farm laborer Magno Rubio who has fallen

in love through a lonely harts as, but his English is not so good.

His literary friend comes to the rescue and corresponds with Rubio’s

sweetheart until they are able to meet at last. Tickets are $39 to

THE EARLY 1900s

“Greetings from Laguna Beach: Our Town in the Early 1900s” just

opened at the Laguna Art Museum and will feature paintings,

photographs and memorabilia that chronicle life in Laguna Beach circa

1900 to 1930. The exhibit includes works by William Wendt, Joseph

Kleitsch, Clarence Hinkle, Edgar Payne and Anna Hills. In 1910,

Laguna’s population was around 300 and many of its residents were

writers, artists and musicians -- much like today. Featuring many of

Laguna Beach’s landmarks, past and present, it’s a vivid history of
