EXHIBIT AT

LAGUNA COLLEGE

Laguna College of Art and Design in association with Forum Gallery

of New York and Los Angeles will host “New Directions in Figurative

Painting.” This fine art exhibition presents new work from four

figurative Artists. The exhibit is being held on the campus of Laguna

College, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road and runs through Dec. 18.

FAMILY SING-ALONG

Every fourth Friday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. No Square

Theatre will have a family sing-along with the renowned musician

Terry Alaric on piano. Show tunes and standards are encouraged for

A TASTE OF WINE

FSL HOLIDAY PARTY

Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center will have its fourth

annual Holiday Gathering to benefit the Laguna Canyon facility’s

animal care and education programs today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The

event will include an open house, carnival games, marine mammal

inspired arts and crafts, ornament making, cookie decorating an

opportunity drawing, a surprise guest appearance and a silent

auction. Tickets are $12 for adult nonmembers, $10 members and $12

for children 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased in advance or

13th ANNUAL

WINTER FANTASY

The 13th annual Sawdust Art Festival Winter Fantasy featuring more

than 170 fine artists and crafts people will be from 10 a.m. to 6

p.m. Saturday and Sunday Nov. 28, 29, 30 and Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14.

Live entertainment, music, Santa and art workshops for children and

OPEN ART STUDIOS

Laguna Canyon Artists’ Open Studio Event is today and Sunday from

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 21062, 3251, 3275 Laguna Canyon Road and 21121

Castle Rock Road. Thirty artists’ studios are open to the public for

two days only. See working studios and works in progress, find unique

gifts, or add to your collection. Painting, sculpture, photography,

RENOWNED HONG KONG ARTIST IN LAGUNA

Art Affair at Gallery 1951 on S. Coast Highway will feature the

works of Hong Kong artist, journalist and documentary film cameraman

Mak Siu-Fung from Dec. 4 to 14 and Siu-Fung will be present today

from 6 to 10 p.m. The gallery is proud to present such a fine

overseas artist to the local community and to host the artist’s debut

RICHARD MACDONALD HOLIDAY PARTY

Richard MacDonald Fine Art Gallery will be holding its annual

Christmas party from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 and is proud to present the

Hartfel Ballet as a featured guest artist. The gallery has a history

of showcasing artists of excellence and world acclaim and supporting

national outreach programs. The ballet will be appearing at the

gallery for its fourth time and the program will feature a new body

of work titled “In Spirit,” set to the music by Arvo Part and 15th

Century hymns. The pieces seek to honor all manner of spirituality

NEW EXHIBITS AT LAM

Laguna Art Museum is exhibiting, “Rebels in Clay: Peter Voulkos

and the Otis Group.” In the mid 50s, Voulkos led a revolution in clay

by questioning the tradition that ceramic forms must be functional

and instead created sculptural works that gave the medium a new

freedom of expression. “Feat of Clay: Five Decades of Jerry Rothman”

opens. In the 60s Laguna Beach ceramic sculptor Rothman became

well-known nationally for struggling to enlarge the scope of and to

overcome the limitations of ceramics that made it unsuitable for the

sculptural ambitions of the time. The exhibit includes his

controversial large scale triptychs of erotic figures and images of

LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE

Laguna Playhouse will present “The Romance of Magno Rubio,” which

is about a Filipino migrant farm laborer Magno Rubio who has fallen

in love through a lonely harts as, but his English is not so good.

His literary friend comes to the rescue and corresponds with Rubio’s

sweetheart until they are able to meet at last. Tickets are $39 to

No Square Theatre’s Open Mic Nights: Local Vocals is back from 8

OUR TOWN IN

THE EARLY 1900s

“Greetings from Laguna Beach: Our Town in the Early 1900s” just

opened at the Laguna Art Museum and will feature paintings,

photographs and memorabilia that chronicle life in Laguna Beach circa

1900 to 1930. The exhibit includes works by William Wendt, Joseph

Kleitsch, Clarence Hinkle, Edgar Payne and Anna Hills. In 1910,

Laguna’s population was around 300 and many of its residents were

writers, artists and musicians -- much like today. Featuring many of

Laguna Beach’s landmarks, past and present, it’s a vivid history of

OCEAN AVENUE BREWERY

Hip-hop and dance music gets the crowd dancing, with DJ Eddie Lee

ART WALK

ACTIVITIES AT LAM

Laguna Art museum is having “Sketching in the Galleries” from 6 to

8 p.m. Feb. 5. Participants can sketch in the museum’s galleries

working from the three-dimensional ceramics on view. An artist from

the Laguna College of Art and Design will lead this informal

sketching group. Material provided and all ability levels welcome.

The museum will also host “Artists in Action” from 6 to 8 p.m. during

First Thursdays Art Walk through Feb. 5. (There won’t be an Art Walk

in Jan.) Laguna Outreach Community Arts will present a series of art
