The Antique Show and Sale sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Laguna

Beach has been postponed.

The club at 286 St. Ann’s Drive will open its doors from 9 a.m. to

2 p.m. Nov. 15 to collect donations for families who lost their homes

in the wildfires.

The Woman’s Club is joining with the Laguna Relief and Resource

Coalition to accept money and gift certificates. All donations

received will go to a family in the community of the donor’s choice.

There will be an opportunity at the Woman’s Club for everyone in

Laguna Beach to write comforting or informative messages to those who

lost their homes.

New locale selected for Thanksgiving potluck

Because of the construction at Bluebird Park, the annual

Thanksgiving potluck this year will be held at noon on Thanksgiving

Day at the Presbyterian church at 2nd Street and Forest Avenue.

The Cross-cultural Council and the Laguna Resource Center will

provide plates, silverware and napkins. Everyone is invited to this

community potluck. Guests are encouraged to contribute a traditional

or nontraditional dish.

Volunteers should arrive at Tankersley Hall by 11 a.m. to help set

up tables and put out the food, drinks and desserts. Those bringing

RUFF Thanksgiving planned, help wanted

Rescuing Unwanted Furry Friends will hold its 14th annual

Thanksgiving dinner at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

A roast turkey with all the trimmings will be served. A vegetarian

dinner is also available. Music will be provided by jazz duo Ken

Rokicki and Lenelle Garcia. Boomer the rescue dog will perform doggie

tricks at 1 p.m.

The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children. For reservations,

Volunteers are needed to serve the lunch from noon to 4 p.m.

Proceeds will go support the care of sick, injured and homeless

animals.

Two free flu clinics in Laguna Beach

South Coast Medical Center will sponsor two free flu vaccination

clinics in November. One at 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at South Coast

Medical Center, 31872 Coast Highway, and one at 8 a.m. to noon Monday

at the Laguna Beach Senior Center, at 384 Legion St.

South Coast Medical Center receives the vaccine serum from the

Orange County Health Care Agency and, therefore, follows the health

care agency’s guidelines for distribution of the vaccine.

The vaccine is for people at greatest risk for contracting the

flu. Immunizations are available for anyone 60 years or older, or any

adult or child with a serious medical condition.

Women leaders to be honored

The American Assn. of University Women will hold its fifth

anniversary celebration of women leaders of Laguna Beach at 6:30 p.m.

Monday at Tivoli Too, 777 Laguna Canyon Road.

This year’s honorees are Vivian Clekak, social justice; Dee

Challis-Davy, arts; Lola Gillebaard, quality of life advocacy; Nancy

Lawrence, diversity leadership; and Peggie Thomas and Pat Jamieson,

education leadership.

Clekak started Human Options in Laguna Beach in 1981, Challis-Davy

is director of the Pageant of the Masters, Gillebaard visits patients

in the hospitals, Lawrence started the Color It Orange program for

school children throughout the county and was a founder of the School

of Art and Design’s Designing Women. Thomas and Jamieson run the Help

A Child and Learning Club mentoring programs at El Morro Elementary

School.

The celebration social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Ed

Merrilees providing keyboard music and June Neptune, a 2001 honoree

and owner of Tivoli Too, providing champagne for all attendees.

Luncheon to honor fire fighters

The Exchange Club of Laguna Beach and Century Exchange Club will

sponsor a lunch at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at the Hotel Laguna, to honor

the Laguna Beach Firefighter and Reserve Firefighter of the Year.

Soroptimist wine tasting fund-raiser set

Soroptimist International of Laguna Beach will host its fifth

annual event to support children in the arts. The wine and hors

d’oeuvres evening will be held at the Laguna Art Museum from 5:30 to

9 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $35.

All proceeds will benefit the museum’s annual Imagination

Celebration, as well as the Museum’s Classroom Art Projects.

Throughout the evening docents will lead tours of the two newly

installed major ceramic exhibitions and also of the works of the

early Laguna painters.

Col. Quilter to talk on recent war experiences

Retired Marine Corps Col. Charles Quilter will speak about his

recent experiences as senior field historian for Aviation for the

Third Marine Aircraft Wing in Kuwait and Iraq in Operation Iraqi

Freedom at the Exchange Club of Laguna Beach luncheon meeting.

Quilter, a longtime Laguna Beach resident, served in the Marine

Corps for more than 43 years. As a pilot, he received several service

medals.

He recently retired as a Delta Airlines pilot. He is an author and

serves as Patriots Day Parade Assn. president.

The meeting will start at 12:15 p.m. Nov. 20 at Hotel Laguna. The

Discussing the Great Park

The Laguna Beach Business Club will host Daniel Jung, who will

talk about plans for the Great Park.

Jung is the director of strategic programs in Irvine. For 10

years, Jung has worked on issues related to the closure and

redevelopment of Marine Corps Air Station El Toro.

At the Business Club meeting, he will discuss the land use plan

and financial strategy for developing the site.

About 4,000 acres of the former base will be designated for park,

open space, recreation and educational uses.

Concert to benefit cancer research

Neighborhood Congregational Church will host a benefit concert and

auction for breast cancer research.

Ann Roach will sing at the concert starting at 8 p.m. Nov. 28 at

the church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive.

There will be an auction preview at 7 p.m. The auction will take

place at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 to $25, depending on income level. Breast cancer

survivors get in for free.
