Red Devils come alive in second half

The Red Devils scored three second-half goals to defeat the Breakers,

3-1, in an AYSO Region 57 girls under-12 soccer game Sept. 20.

Codi Clausen, Riley Lazar and Kate Alvarado all scored for the

Devils with Hannah Palmaer adding two assists. Clausen’s goal was her

first.

Emily Baker, Korinne Kornmann, Taya Winkle and Taylor Kawakami

anchored a strong defense with Brooke Braga, Molly Larkins, Lindsey

Peters and Eleanor Strom providing midfield support.

In boys under-12 action:

* Bad Boys 5, Tide 2:

Nick Flamson and Aaron Verastah each scored two goals with Chris

Fauntleroy adding the final goal for the Bad Boys.

Matt Wilkerson, Koomi Chehabi and Michael Hassman each had

assists.

Key stops by Alex Ludlow, Nick Manning, Jarrett Logan, Michael

Drews and Reid Johnson led the defense.

Evan Danielle and Michael Dahl stopped numerous shots on goal.

* Hawks 2, Bouncers 1:

Allen Brown, Harrison Rolfes and Zack Martin led the offense while

Preston Risser played well in goal for the Hawks, who didn’t have any

substitutes to use in the second half.

Taylor Battram, Ryan Crawford, David Fenner, Zachary Greenside,

Andrew Iverson, Christopher Piggott, Turner Raleigh and Kevin Zipser

all contributed to the offense.

* Fire 6, Green Pickles 3:

Michael Franklin scored five goals to lead the Fire to victory.

Parker Ewles provided two assists while Patrick Pearson added one

assist for the Fire. Pierce Stemler also drove the ball into the

Pickles’ goal after a push in the third period.

Goalkeeper Sandon Griffin made a diving stop in the second period

and Alex Grody, Derek Satterfield, Jack Murphy and Dan Steele

controlled the area around the goal.

Eric Frazier, Brandon McHugh and Aria Mohammadi kept the ball from

entering Fire territory.

In boys under-11 play:

* Corona del Mar’s Select team remained unbeaten (6-0) with a pair

of shutout wins Sept. 20.

CdM defeated Yorba Linda, 4-0, in the first game with first-half

goals by Nick Curci and Brent Gray. Brennan Anderson and Kjell Wolker

found the back of the net in the second half. Wolker’s goal came on

an assist from Taylor Ross while Jack Gorab assisted on the other.

Wolker (2), Blake Thomsen, Anderson, Will Morrow and Jensen

Rhinehart all scored goals in a 6-0 victory over North Irvine.

CdM extended its shutout streak to five games with goalkeeper

Clark Cashion leading the defense which also consisted of Morrow,

Garret Larsen and Rhinehart.

* CdM Beach Bums 4, North Irvine 2:

Connor Cole tallied the hat trick and Brett Thompson added the

final goal for the Beach Bums.

Mikey Pawell, Eric Zamucen and Nick Rich had assists.

Jed Thayer, Chip Zucker, Cameron Orr and Bryce Ashton controlled

the midfield with defensive stoppers Andrew McCormack, Grant Garrett,

Hunter Meese and Connor Morrill alongside.

Goalkeepers Daniel Noto and Emery Molnar made several saves.

In girls under-10 play:

* Pink Panthers 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers 2:

Allison Bernardy scored four goals to lead the Pink Panthers to

the victory.

Rachel Cashion put away a blast from 10 yards after a breakaway by

Skylar Dapp for the Peppers.

Caroline Grant, Pauline Leach and Jenna Funsten played well on

offense for the Peppers while Chloe Dapp, Lexie Shaw and Taylor

Elmajian led the defense.

In boys under-10 action:

* Blue Galaxy 4, Wizards 1:

Midfielder Jono Keedy scored three goals on assists from Ryan

Pierce, Colin Krum and Casey Worden to lead the Blue Galaxy. Casey

Worden added a goal in the second quarter on an assist from Jake

Jones.

Mathew Kernan and Jonathon Harzon anchored the Galaxy defense

while Jones and Tanner Grandstaff made several key saves in goal.

* Black Hawks 3, Yellow Devils 0:

David Moore tallied the hat trick to lead the Black Hawks.

Michael Bui, Karl Malone Jr. and Zachary Fox pressured the Devils’

goal and assisted Moore.

Alex Moore, Mason Garrell and sweeper Joshua Giddings provided

solid defense to stop attacks.

Goalkeeper Maxwell McCarter aided in the shutout.

* Green Goblins 1, Blue Thunder 0:

Jason Cowan scored the game’s lone goal and Jacob Maxwell provided

strong play in goal for the Goblins.

In girls under-8 action:

* Molly Keasey scored three goals to lead the Mean Green Kicking

Machine against the Screaming Lizards. Lauren Dean, Cassidy Carroll

and Katie Scott all assisted.

Bianca Lechnitz, Blair Henderson and Claire Brown provided

defensive support.

* Atomic Fireballs 4, Roaring Tigers 1:

Noelle Gooding and Maddie Roth each scored two goals to lead the

Atomic Fireballs.

Katie Curci, Paige Larsh and Amelia Anderson anchored the defense

while Chloe Kuhen, Isabella Hill and Savannah Taylor created numerous

scoring chances.

In boys under-8 action:

* Tyler Caronia connected on a free kick and forward Finn Kallal

sneaked a ball under the goalkeeper for the Blue Flame.

Derek Sweet and Zachary Thompson supported on defense while Andrew

Francini and Sam Younesi showed strong midfield presence and

dribbling.

William Castelbanco provided strong support on corner kicks and

long passes.

Kyle Rodewald recorded a shutout in goal in only his second

appearance.
